Finally a Property!
With the market still being slow lately, I haven’t been able to book many viewings for potential properties. A potential bungalow came up fairly recently and piqued my interest in terms of location and architectural style. It was great to be able to book another viewing on a potential accessible property since it had been a while so I’m excited to book a few more soon!
The Property
Front Garden
On arrival, it was instantly clear that the bungalow wouldn’t be ideal due to the steps and steep drive that made it impossible to get close to the bungalow. With the outside of the bungalow already raising red property flags, there must have been some redeeming factors on the inside of the property?
Inside Property
Unfortunately for the inside, it had all the inaccessible features you would expect from the majority of bungalows in the United Kingdom – tight hallways, a very small kitchen and an especially small bathroom. The bathroom was disappointing as the picture made it out to be much bigger than it was due to the perspective it was taken from.
Garden + Other
As for the garden, it wasn’t that big either which put me off the property due to there being limited land to extend and add to the property space and value. The option to extend a property always comes in handy for enhancing the accessibility of the property by adding more space through extensions.
Another thing surrounding the property which made it even more disappointing was its price. For what you got, it seemed like a hefty price to pay for it as the bungalow was in disrepair and required a considerable amount of work to be livable for anyone looking to purchase it.
Lack of Accessible Properties
Again, this property wasn’t the right one for me due to the lack of accessibility or at least the potential to be made suitably accessible. There are aspects of house hunting which will never change, we will always see misleading photos, limited information and prices which seem excessive for what you get. Maybe it’s a temporary property market issue and will eventually change but we just have to wait and see where the market will take us next!
Property Hunting Fatigue
Sometimes it does feel like searching for the perfect accessible property is practically impossible. Even though I’ve been waiting for ages for a new bungalow to pop up, the fatigue of searching came back almost recently. The property-hunting fatigue is growing stronger with every property I’ve seen!
It’s beyond ridiculous how inaccessible properties are, to begin with. More needs to be done to address the shortage of accessible properties through building more accessible properties to meet current and future accessible property needs.
